If you think having two "China"s is weird, that's exactly what Communist China thinks and that's why they make everyone call us "Taiwan" and not recognize us as a country.

Nah it's more similar to north Korea and south Korea, except the Koreas are almost equal in power so neither Korea can claim to be the "true" Korea. But for China's case, the Communist China just bullies the the other China and keep any other country from calling it a country.

True Taiwanese mentality is:
We are China but not "THAT" China.
Which is kind of contradictory in a sense.

Chinese people (and Taiwanese people) are protective of the geographical area called "China".
"Taiwan" is the name of an island that is part of it. However, about 100 years ago, a new Communist government was created and they started a civil war. In the end, the Communists almost won, but the war was put into an indefinite pause. The original government was left with only the small island of Taiwan. So technically both governments are China. But the "Communist China" just bullies the "tiny island China", making everyone else say it's not legitimate because technically it's part of the idea of the geographical area of "China".
