You have to build a successful relationship from something, and understanding requires some kind of communication. You can't expect people to immediately have a successful relationship out of nothing. One person may think they are doing everything they can to make the other happy, yet overlook something; likewise, they could be doing something that doesn't really make the other happy. As the post is stating, it is much more likely to help build a successful relationship with communication, rather than with obfuscation.

But... you aren't making money from them. You just aren't wasting your time or spending money on the site. It's not the same thing. By that logic, I am making money from BMW because I didn't buy a car from them.

That would be amazing. I'll admit that I don't really discuss some of what makes me upset with SOs, but that is usually because experiments are not working out how they should. Also, this post applies to kids talking to their parents, too.

No, you absolutely cannot. It is physically impossible to speak that fast. For reference, the Guinness Book of World Records holder for fastest speaker does around 10 words per second. I'd say a word or two per second is about average.

Consider how fractions work. If you get a 0/10 on something, and you currently have a 87/100, the numerator stays the same, but the denominator increases by 10, therefore your grade decreases by 9.1%. However, if you get a 10/10, both the numerator and denominator increase by the same amount, and only gives a moderate 1.4% increase. This is because the amount added only represents a small portion of the total, which proves to be diminishing returns as the point total increases and your overall grade increases. It's just like life, you can do good almost every day, and it slowly increases your progress/reputation/self-esteem/whatever, but a seemingly minor setback can have a disproportionately large negative impact.

The worst is going boating in the ocean and getting salty water all over them. On some kinds of glasses Rain-X really helps with the fogging (and rain). Be careful, though, because it can ruin the surface of some coated plastic lenses.

Grade weighting. That term paper you didn't turn in was 30% of your grade, but those homework assignments you googled all the answers to aren't worth much. It makes sense.

Also jackasses that go 20 under the speed limit. Or morons that try to merge on to a highway going 35. Or fuckbrains that slow down to the speed minimum when they see a cop. Or shitheads that merge from the right lane into the left lane 4ft front of you to go 1mph faster than they were in order to take 15 miles to pass a truck. Or about 80% of motorcyclists that do much worse shit than this gif.

With some calculations, and placing one end in proximity to a neutron star, you can create a time flow differential between the two mouths and use it as a time machine.

Yes, because missing one word means I didn't read the article. My point stands, how much did it actually help? It's a neat idea, and is actually a good use of taxpayer money, but I really doubt it actually has a significant impact on reducing infant mortality rate compared to those other things I mentioned.

Perhaps I think rational discussion is fun. It beats pseudopolitics and people pointing fingers calling other people racist, but those posts/comments seem to take up a lot of FS.

How does that compare to the infant mortality rate of other countries? I think that most 1st world countries probably had a decline in those years, as well. Lots of other things changed, such as hygiene practices; training, licensure, and inspection of hospitals/doctors/nurses; usage of antibiotics; usage of vaccines; awareness of safe food/substance consumption during pregnancy/nursing... You can't say that is the only thing that has had an impact.
