I'm from Venezuela too. About the media blackout, it's becoming a reality, all the news channels are owned by the government and, considering that these protests are because of the inefficiency government, that isn't good.
The police are not the only ones involved with weapons, the army and the "delinquents" that live here are also fighting with the students that are protesting. This is turning into a civil war
