Militant doesn't necessarily mean violent, just aggressive or radical.

Advocating to use genetic modification to fundamentally eliminate carnivorous dispositions from nature and using what is effectively human eugenics to eliminate undesirable traits is pretty militant.

Stuff like this is common, it just doesn't get much exposure.

Don't get carried away. Removing undesirable traits just might be what it takes to cause humanity to stagnate. At the very least, life would be less interesting.

So it's okay for the local PD to act as thought police just because another agency is looking at the terrorists? That doesn't make any sense. Aside from the fact that absolute enforcement of the law is impossible, and that somethings should not be policed, the killers and terrorists should always be the top priority. And when people are being ran down or blown up every week it means that as many resources as possible should be dedicated to addressing that, rather than keeping a look out for mean words.

It's a poison that destroys everything it touches.

Assholes aren't criminals. Having cops after them anyways is a gross misapplication of police resources. Resources that would otherwise do more good in tracking and catching killers and terrorists.
It ain't about catching them all, that's simply impossible, but the priorities should focus more on actual threats to public safety.

There shouldn't be any law enforcement assets dedicated to stopping "assholes". Especially not when there are bigger problems.
