My Aunt Emily has a sign in her kitchen that says " some say its half empty. Others say its half full. I say " are you going to drink that?"

Half empty because the guy is taking the milk. If you take something out, it's empty. If you put something in, it's full.

Holy crap you solved it. But by this, the glass thing can be seen in a different optimist, realist and pessimist perspective. The optimist thinks more is coming in, the pessimist thinks the cup is emptying and the realists believes it will remain at that level. The opportunist will use it to fill or empty something else. If this was it all along, then wow I missed that...
