Maybe that's her princess outfit? Like, she finally got accepted for who she was and can wear this stuff too meetings and not feel forced about it?

Sometimes I think that whoever designed her outfit for the 2d version didn't even see the movie... she had to wear a gown much less fancy than that and she HATED it.
I think it's just that the movie version is on the left, and the one on the right is the packaging, advertising, cards, ects version. To match the 2-D style of all the other princesses
I agree with above . Smart Lady . Have a lovely day .

yeah, they thought she didn't fit in and wouldn't sell unless they sexed her up in the 2d version. I wish she'd had a more realistic 2d transition. she just looks like a verison of the rest of them now :(
I was so bummed about this- as a redhead warrior myself, it made me happy to see a character more true to so many younger girls (including me!) And then for them to send the message that this is what is better, I was disappointed. I am glad the female creator of the character is speaking out against it.
Thank you for that link! I had no idea Merida was based on the creator, Brenda's, daughter. I am glad she is taking a stand against the "makeover," Not every girl is sparkly and pink (even though some awesome girls and boys are) and it's nice to have diversity fought for.
The sparkles are fine, I just don't like how they redrew her to have more of a "pretty" look as compared to looking brave and strong.

also mad about how they took away her arrows
I think she looked the same only 2D and a different dress, which is understandably different so that she'll look good next to the other princesses... No, she definitely looks the same. I simply do not see what the problem is here.

OK, basically the reason that there are over 200,000 signatures for the petition to change this is because they have given her the big sex kitten eyes with the come-hither look, given her perfect hair, makeup, and a more sexy dress. It's just not fitting with her character, and that's basically what's pissing everyone off
Apparently I am the only person who doesn't see a difference between these two images. Ok then. I have concluded that everyone else is too touchy about stupid things like it is seriously not as big of a deal as you're making it.
Not to interrupt this exchange, but I thought that article could put into wordsd what the controversy along with the makeover was- something that is hard to understand with just that one picture. This quote summed the petition about why this redesign means more than just some sparkles ((I hope this helps)):
"The redesign of Merida in advance of her official induction to the Disney Princess collection does a tremendous disservice to the millions of children for whom Merida is an empowering role model who speaks to girls' capacity to be change agents in the world rather than just trophies to be admired.
Moreover, by making her skinnier, sexier and more mature in appearance, you are sending a message to girls that the original, realistic, teenage-appearing version of Merida is inferior; that for girls and women to have value -- to be recognized as true princesses -- they must conform to a narrow definition of beauty." THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU these are my EXACT thoughts I'm just not great at putting them into sentences.
Oh my gosh nobody complained about this with Rapunzel, Elsa, or Anna. Disney cartoonify's all their princesses I don't know why anyone thought she would be the exception. They do this so she could interact with the other princesses more easily. She looks like a classic, cartoon Disney Princess. If Mulan could wear a fancy dress with pride, so can Merida.
