I dont know how it is wherever this is, but here in Germany we have a layer of styrofoam on the outside an painted! It's cheap, looks good,and keeps the warmth inside.
And yeah you can pretty much punch through it :| and sticking/throwing a bottle to pierce it is pretty easy
