It's like this for security reasons. It makes it more difficult for a hacker guess a username or password.

if it show you if its the username or password that would make it easy for bruteforcers.. i think that idea is not clever

If you could not tell the whole world that the username is righ... that'd be great.

It's not even really possible for them to know which one is wrong..
