When my parents say their generation doesn't understand computers

Well if you were born in the same year as Bill Gates and Steve Jobs when Tim Berners-Lee set up the first web server in December 1990 you'd have been thirty five years old. It's kind of inconceivable but in comparison today back then computers were few and far between and software like Windows 3.1 wouldn't be available for another two years. I started working in an office in 1993 and had guys confronted with their first ever computer having to learn to type because previously letters were sent to a thing called a "typing pool" where young woman trained in touch typing, typed up their hand written letters. I still remember trying to teach one of the guys the concept of the "double mouse click". First and last time I've ever shouted at another dude "Faster, faster!".

Those 2 also were thoroughly engrossed in the subject for years before it ever became commercially available. And then continued in that specific industry for years afterwards. I'm guessing a teenager made this so imagine DOUBLING the ENTIRE amount of time you've been alive, learning all your ways of doing things, having those things become ingrained in you that THAT is how you do things, not any other way. And then all the sudden some new technology comes out (by somebody your age since it took them years to perfect it) that completely changes how you do tons of things. You'd be perfectly able to just change everything about how you've been doing things for the past 40 years right? I mean it was somebody from your generation that built it, you should automatically know how it works exactly.
