Little kids get tired very fast and also have a very short stride. This is ideal in a crowed area or when you have a hilly route because you always know where your kid is and can get from point A to point B quickly. You see it far too often, the parent pulling the kid along because the kid can't walk the same speed as the adult. This is also much safer, try to grab the kid and you get a full grown adult's weight barring you.

I was a kid, I walked everywhere. What's next teleportation devices so people don't actually have to walk anywhere?
I have actually considered the fact that humans were actually not meant to habitate the ungodly California Bay Area hills. I workout and do yoga, and yet I still want to die every morning on my commute. So . . . there's that.

You can thank thousands of years of evolution for that. :-D
Yes, I'm sure you were just so great and never ever used a stroller or sat in a grocery cart, or got carried anywhere from the very moment you learned to walk. Get off your high horse, not that you'd ride one anyway, you'd be walking right?

Yeah, I somersaulted out of my mothers vagina if you'd really like to know.
