My gran who is in her late nineties said Britain giving up the empire was the best thing that ever happened domestically because it focused thinking towards home and afterwards working class people in Britain could get access to free health care, social housing and funds for higher education etc rather than the political classes focusing on trying to manage a world empire left to them by her forefathers. She'd have happily traded in the empire earlier for a box of PG Tips tea.
Actually there are a whole bunch of other complications that would happen if Australia declared independence. First, we would have to change all of our currency
There would be some pretty big challenges to overcome - restructuring parliament, for one thing - but we could totally do it, sure. It won't happen until lots of older Aussies, who see no reason to jettison tradition, die though, and it'll never happen while the LNP is in power.
All I know about Australia (and I have NEVER been) is that it is absolutely awesome. I havent of course, looked at the politics because its always absolute bullocks.
Portugal: we were everything, we discovered Africa, Brazil...., found many ways(by sea and land) to travel around the world, we were soooo important...and now we´re nothing and we´re in a deep economial crisis...
it reallyyyyyyyyyyyyyy bothers me that portugal used to be such a huge empire but now some people don't even know the name of the country if i showed them the flag.
