It doesn't just snap off the stinger, the stinger pulls out all of the intestines and most vital organs which actually kills the bee. Fun fact.

Only if a bee stings a mammal. Bees can and will sting other bees to death from differnt colonies, such as when raiding another colony to steal their honey. The stinger enters the victim bee's body just enough to deliver the venom, allowing for multiple stings and the attacker surviving. When a bee stings a mammal, the stinger has barbs on it that get caught in the skin, tearing it out of the bee's body along with parts needed to survive. So a bee can only sting once if it stings you, but it will kill another bee quite easily and fly away to kill more, if it doesn't get stung to death first.
