Do British people actually call America the colonies?

I need to know the answer for the title. Right now.

In Australia they always called it the states.

No British person under the age of 80 calls the US the colonies. Its either America, USA or the US.

I'm under 80, British, living in the colonies, and sometimes I call them so. Therefore the answer to the title is yes, because 1 person doing it should suffice. I am British people.
