Apparently the Beeb wants it a lot, but the creators are unsure if they'd be happy to make an episode/episodes so quickly, fearing a loss of quality.

Technically, if you count the classic seasons, (and you should), we have 33 seasons already. (So really, we'd actually get season 83 in 2050, if it were to last that long).

It actually does. :) those two words have different meanings. "Seasons" are just smaller sections of the show, and "Series" is the ENTIRE show.
