I used to read a book series called STARFIST (yes, it looks like starfish) and that was the first series I had read where they kill off main characters like it means nothing. I was genuinely upset, especially since some characters were there for 2-3 books and then just straight up get shot. It's a pretty good series, if anyone's interested in a Sci-Fi Military series
