Actually when people read it they don't say they're in a fandom they say it when they obsess over it. So my friend and I read it and we play it non stop on quiz up we use it as a reference for everything and we literally obsess over it just like we do about our other fandoms. So we don't just go 'I'm in the fandom' once we've read it, we actually fangirl over it and then we join the fandom. (Coming from a girl who fangirls more than she sleeps)
Yes and I don't fangirl over these books though I've read them. So I'm not "in the fandom" though you're a prime example of one. People shouldn't discriminate against fandoms. Even though I hate twilight.
It's sad that many consider this 'nerdy' because it's a book and it seems that most of my generation doesn't read at all, and as soon as somebody says they read they think they are geeky etc.
I guess it's one of those situations where you wont ever know until you have a good conversation with somebody and get to know them as individuals. I read books like Ayn rands atlas shrugged and I don't consider myself a nerd, even though that book is a million times more sophisticated than say, divergent. It's all about self perception vs others perception
I totally agree with it, lots of people believe it's selfish but after reading the book you certainly understand where Ayn rand is coming from. I want to read a book called the spirit level next, which is the complete opposite opinion, just so I can understand both sides of the argument
To sum the book up in one quote
" I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine."
Basically living for yourself and doing what makes you happy as an individual
I'm not trying to be sassy or anything I agree with but what's your definition of a geek or nerd? And why do you think it's suddenly glorified by social media girls?
And no I don't consider my self a "geek" or "nerd" people are just are always vague with what they is one and a lot of time they just say you are a geek/nerd. So yeah thanks :)

I think the concept is glorified by girls because it is the opposite of how they are (negatively) portrayed in the media and as that image is negative they want to distance themselves from it.
I hate how the fact that I like to read makes me a "nerd" to some people. I'm pretty sure my obsession with etymology, among other things, takes care of that.
Eh heh heh this is true but I feel like the only reason I read it because of vlogbrothers SciShow (I know Hank but it's amazing so shhh) CrashCoarse and you have people like me who read john work and go yay john! And then you have some like my friend "OMGZ ROMANTICALLLLL JUICES EVERYWHEREEEEE" *sigh*
When someone calls you a nerd, they are technically saying that you are smarter than them so... that's probably why some people wants to be called a "nerd". Plus, reading is not very nerdy. It is just like watching a movie but only seeing words. So yeah. *Smile* This post gives me mixed feelings.
P.S: What is the difference between a tuna and a piano?
(You can "tuna" piano but you can't piano tuna.)
- Just to cheer you up :) (Joke from Hank Green's video.)
I am a "nerd" but I don't talk about it. I read. I get good grades. I'm in the gifted program. I've read those book. But reading them isn't the thing that makes me a nerd. You have to read more than JUST those books.
