Well, according to physics, when you apply a force to something, the same force is applied back, equally, but in the opposite direction to the applied force, therefore, if the part you punch hurts, not your fist, (because your fist most likely has a higher density) then you're more likely to be stronger in terms of force, but weaker in terms of resistance.
