Any British person who can attest to this?

"A bit of a pickle" can also be replaced with "We're in a bit of a jam". This can also be replaced with "Everything's gone pear shaped." The New Zealand term is perhaps "It's all turned to custard." I'm suddenly feeling a bit peckish for some reason.

You could also use "We're in a sticky situation" Its not as cool as "It's all turned to custard" But it works.

British people commonly use sarcasm, so most american phrases like 'Well this is fun' or 'Oh, really?' etc usually come off as sarcastic to British people.

All true - especially the "well this is fun" it absolutely means it's a total catastrophe and you are having the absolute worst day ever

Or you could say it in a british accent. Point made.
