This tree trying to crawl into the water

Anyone else find this a tad creepy? Kinda reminds me of the backwards crawl the little girl does on the Exorcist.

...OR the tree was there doin his tree thing (I know they do a lot with breezes) and the water caused erosion of the soil which then exposed the roots which grow downward in order to get as much water and as many nutrients as possible.
