With the connotations, yes manslaughter does sound worse than murder. But with the law, manslaughter is 3rd degree murder, and the smallest offense of murder. Where as 1st degree murder is the largest offense.
Manslaughter would be accidentally hitting someone with your and killing them. Then you get regular murder (accidental) and then thought out murder (you planned it). We call it "moord met voorbedagde rade" (not sure what the proper English is there.....)

I think killing someone accidently is hard. I mean, proving the people aren't lying is nearly impossible without evidence.
Like Oscar Pistorius, stupid example, but I mean, his case won't be rested for a long time.
His trial still isn't over? We were keeping up with his case in criminal law class, but the school year is over now. I'll have to look it up later and catch up.
He's been admitted to a pshyciatric hospital. Second high profile case suspect to be admitted to pshyciatric hospital. That other Dewani British guy too, he was extradited from Britain.
it sounds more violent... it's the word "slaughter" just as if we used "carnage" rather than "crime" and "massacre" rather than "mass killing" for murder it would sound worse. Words can make a hell of a difference depending how they are used. *go English!*
