Does anyone actually realize how difficult it is to take these old pallets apart and get all the nails out of them...not a fun job. I've done it for similar projects, but damn, it sometimes doesn't feel worth the effort.
As someone with a fire pit, I would have sacrificed the usable material and just cut around the supports for the ease. Not sure what your project was, but it would certainly be how I would do it if I wanted to do a hardwood floor.
We do that sometimes too. But for most rustic projects to nice to keep all exposed edges uncut if possible.
This wood project tho...for fuck sakes, just get real hardwood. Get used ones if you want the old look, so you're still reusing them.
I use pallets for builds all the time .. I use a sawsall to cut the nails in between the planks and the 2x4s ..then use a nail punch to knock them out .. fast and easy
