Cars are designed to crumple. If an accident happens, the crumpling increases the amount of time the crash occurs for, so decreases the total amount of force the people inside feel for the same amount of energy behind a crash. Like the difference between crashing into a brick wall or a haystack, except the cars bonnet is now the virtual 'haystack'.
Actually the time difference in the crash is insignificant, the energy of the crash is partially used up to crumple those parts of the car, meaning less energy is transmitted to the driver and passengers.
I will have you all know that china is producing so many things so fast for very little money. Their living conditions are horrible... they are working themselves to death! And we expect them to make high quality things?
