Back in my day I put my portable CD player in the small pouch of my back pack and would rest my head on it while I was taking "notes."

Just keep the volume down. Someone in my class tried to do this but the teacher could hear the music and needless to say it didn't end well.

Funny enough my math teacher told the class he did that as a kid, then I tried it and my whole table was looking at me mischievously haha

Got busted when i was in highschool when the teacher walked past and could hear the laser reader and the disc churn and spin as it loaded random songs on my discman.... How times have changed.

I've never had any gum or music bans in my classes. Wtf kind of oppressive North Korean regime do you guys live in?

Typically, they're classes where the teacher doesn't feel like wasting their time teaching students who don't pay attention. As for the gum, well, people would rather not clean that up.
