Why did he have to act alone?

So he would appear bigger than the other actors since he's playing a wizard interacting with a hobbit and dwarves.

Apparently everybody hated making these movies, especially Peter Jackson. And you can damn sure tell. I'm still gonna watch the shit out of them tho.

Not quite 100% true, if you watch the bonus stuff on the dvds, he actually was downcast because he thought that his skills as an actor were obsolete because he felt like he couldn't act like that. Still sad, but he wasn't bagging the technology, just had an off day like we all get I suppose. Don't worry, he also said the cast and crew made him feel much better!

True. Hate was the wrong word. I read some articles that said a lot of the crew were disappointed about the quality and quantity of the CGI. The original movies had more acting and the preproduction on the Hobbit is less than half of what it was on the originals.
