We did this in my physics class with a 30g weight, some idiot pushed it and it hit him in the face, highlight of my physics lessons.

I learnt this in seventh grade. Your life is not in danger if you know how to throw it. He was just acting. He wasn't even scared.

Technically you don't "throw it" at all, as that would give it more force and it WOULD smack you in the head. That was his whole point of not giving it any extra energy, you have to just let it drop with no extra push.
