No, "stupid" people can put in tons of effort and still get bad grades. Whereas I slept in class, never did homework and graduated at the top of my class.

I get what you're saying. To me intelligence is relative. Somebody may be a genius in literature but have no understanding of how an engine works and vice versa. Common sense is what is important to me.

School doesn't measure intelligence it more or less focuses on memory. Have you ever noticed after taking a test and moving onto the next chapter you forget things from the previous chapter?
Plus the ability to learn, make connections and think critically. Only people who have done badly say that exams don't measure intelligence. Plus those saying that there are different types of intelligence, sure, but I think you will find that an intelligent person will often be good at many things, while less intelligent people may be good at only a few things.
I'm so glad there seems to be more pushback on this subject lately. So tired of hearing some FSers whine about how terrible school supposedly is, and how they're not as stupid as silly things like test results would have you believe.
I bet many of these are from the same people who are "bad test takers", as it was called when I was in school. What a laugh.
No, grades don't define intelligence, they measure it. Not a perfect measure but still a valid one.
Similarly, age does not define maturity but there is a strong correlation.

It's the voters' fault for not holding our elected officials accountable for stripping our school system's funding down to peanuts.
