Actually everyone got the idea from Harry Potter. In Harry Potter theY HAD to split it into 2 parts because the last book is so long.

It made sense for Harry Potter.
It does not make sense for smaller, less plot-filled final films like The Hunger Games or Twilight.

, the film makers decided that they couldn't split HP5 it into two parts because events were what made it long, not plot. They didn't think it would work out to make two.
