Now, I'm not going to say that women are to blame, but that girl doesn't seem too eager to avoid it.
I mean, if I were a thief, I would target people in expensive clothes, tourists, and anyone who doesn't seem prepared to fight back.
I'm not claiming that the girl is in the wrong, I'm simply saying that the most defenseless marks would be the most appealing.
Walking around with a fanny pack (Yogapants) while holding your wallet out in front of you (topless) just screams at the bad guy "Yo, why bother going after that person in t-shirt and jeans when I'm right here?"
And the fact remains that stealing and rape are very different, not just legally, but morally. A woman's body is her own. If she wants to wear yoga pants then she should without having to be worried about being raped. Hell, if she wants to wear nothing, she should, because it is her body and she should decide what happens to it.
And I get the point that people should be careful, no one is arguing against that, but the point is, this is against victim blaming. You should never say that someone was asking for it. What they were wearing shouldn't be taken into consideration, because the fact is, most rapists don't actually notice. They don't go for the flashy topless protesters who are going to be noticed, they go for that teenage girl wearing a batman t-shirt and jeans, because her eyes are down and she's alone. Because they can get away with it.
No, people should not be raped. But it's a sad world we live in and realistically, rape isn't going to stop. As sad as it is it's the grim, blunt truth. Although humans, whether male or female, shouldn't live in fear of being attacked, logic must be used and we must adapt to the current situation. We should have freedom. But we don't. So be sensible. Don't flaunt all that you have just because you can, just because you can doesn't mean it's wise, think. Don't be a target
