Use it. Everybody has to wait for a potty sometimes. Handicapped people are people too and likely won't mind waiting a moment. If they do mind you can always run up some stairs.
Story: So I was at a restaurant with a bathroom of 3 stalls, the two non-handicappped restrooms were flooded and out of order... I didn't want to use the handicapped one- for the fear of someone w/ real use of it - but i really had to go! But of course, a lady comes in and shakes the door on the stall and says, "Who's in there?!" I could tell she was in a wheelchair and I felt so bad. I tried explaining to her but she began to cuss me out. I don't even finish going pee 'cause I was so scared. I walked out to wash my hands. I thought she would stop but she continues to say that the young people of today don't have morals and whatnot. I felt horrible because I had tried to be so respectful and dignified to this lady, maybe she had a bad day or something. But, she went on... So i literally ran out of the restroom and hid behind my sister like a little kid so she wouldn't see me and hunt me down.
So, kids, that is the story of how I will never use a handicapped person's bathroom again.
So are you not supposed to use those stalls? I always thought it was there so that if a handicapped person came in the bathroom they got to use it next, not so only handicapped individuals are allowed to use it.
The reason I use handycapped stalls are two-fold. I'm a big person. The regular stalls are too small for me to sit in comfortably. Sometimes I hit & cut myself on the menstration trash can. I actually have scars on my one leg from hitting that thing in the college dorm bathroom. We had to petition to get them removed b/c I wasn't the only one. And sometimes they're too narrow that I can't properly widen my legs for hygene practices.
The other reason is people with kids. If you've tried going to the bathroom with a two year old, its hard in a normal stall. If I do go and a handycapped person comes in, I'll appologize but until then, its the best place to go.
