It kinda was. According to various music magazines, not to me. Panic! At The Disco, My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy were always mentioned when they were branding things as "emo".

I was always more of a Linkin Park kind of emo *rides off into the sunset singing Breaking The Habit*

Yeah, Fall Out Boy, Panic!, Linkin Park, Evanescence, Three Days Grace.... And I went to the more hard rock with Metallica, Disturbed, the Murderdolls... And shopping at Hot Topic back when you thought it was still edgy. Wearing dark colors all the time and trying to act like you're so badass because "everyone's afraid of you" like nah, not really.
