Why do we applause the wrong things

Ok what I think is(again this is my personal opinion nothing more) that while Ricky gervais has a point that just because you realized too late doesn't forgive what you did, I think the people he is referring to are just trying to make a point that you can come back from Anything and that even though you may never be forgiven it's never too late to repent sort of thing

This is utter bullshit... heroin addicts mug people and shit themselves in doorways because of prohibition, not because one day they chose to become antisocial. Overcoming an addiction is not something to applaude? Yeah, right. Ricky Gervais now an anchor on FOX? Hope at least he is maintaining his views on religion and homosexuality.
