That was not caused by driving in winter, this was almost definitely caused by distracted driving, likely texting. The fact that it was winter probably saved the driver 's bacon.

They should have swerved toward the snow bank, not toward oncoming traffic.

I think at that point because they hit the ice patch, they lost complete control and really had few options.

Actually you can see where there's a point when they take a sharp turn to the left. Looks like they were trying regain control, but turned too much to the left. Unless the roads are 100% clear always best to move away traffic.
