This also works on homosexuality. My parents never said anything about either one. Even my schoolmates never said anything about my gay friends. We all accepted that people like people. Some like people of the same gender, opposite gender or both, it doesn't matter to us and that's why I don't get why they have to fight for their rights in certain places.
My daughters have always believed that "two daddies can love each other" and "it's okay for boys to wear dresses" without us having to say anything on this subject. Just like racism, negative feelings towards homosexuality is something that must be learned.
The problem is that men already have the advantage in society and in the working world especially. Of course anyone should be able to do anything they want, regardless of gender, but often that isn't possible for women. Since we are starting with an uneven playing field, we're going to have to give more to girls than we do to boys, which seems unfair on the surface but it actually isn't. This post brings up an example of what we should be doing for young girls to bring them even with boys. Young boys don't have to be told that they can do anything they want because they actually can be/do anything they want in this current society and girls really can't.
TLDR; Sorry that as a male you're feeling left out, but that's necessary to fix the current gender gap in society.
My daughters started saying "that's a boy's job" when they were three or four, and I can only think they got this notion from the lack of women portrayed doing said job. Of course I corrected them, but it goes to show that maybe little girls do still need to hear this message.
