Everytime I go on the internet this movie gets deeper and more symbolic.

I love this. Just goes to show how much thought was put into each story. Even little details like this are thought through.

When you think about it, Gothel was actually pretty amazing. She could have kept Rapunzel in a dungeon, but she chose not to. She taught the little princess to read, write, sew, paint, play music, and the words "I love you". She might have been a selfish, greedy old hag, but she wasn't 100% heartless.

But if Gothel had abused her physically or locked her in a dungeon or didn't make her believe she was her loving mother then Rapunzel would hate her more and more. Eventually, Rapunzel who doesn't really know what's out there or who she really is would kill herself resulting in Gothel's death.

Anyways, I have the feeling that Rapunzel has to be willing for her healing powers to work.

One more reason why it's way better than Frozen.
