It's all about the Gameplay. Even if the graphics are a bit shitty in the end it's the experience itself that matters most.

Minecraft is not ugly. Its hideous. It has 16x16 texture. What makes it such a great game is the fact that players can make texture packs from 32x32 up to 512x512. Also because of that you can choose a texture pack of of both your computer performance and your personal opinion or you can make your own.
