I asked my math teacher what calculus would be applied to in real life, and she said that we'll do it in college. So I asked why we would need it in college, and she said because we need the class to graduate...she wasn't answering the question
Calculus is needed to compute the equations and problems and new discoveries in the physics and semiconductor physics world, that control your cell phone, computer, car, and so so much more. Never underestimate the importance of math/calculus/physics.
I couldn't have fun without a little bit of calculus, trigonometry and linear algebra. I write computer games for fun. I can't play music or anything, programming is how I express myself and games are fun, so the maths that come with it are fun.
Also I'm doing a PhD in astrophysics, but that's less fun. The maths aren't considerably harder though.
I don't understand this math hate going on every day. Math is not for everyday mundane stuff, it is for higher thinking in professions which are above the ordinary tasks. Kids may see this kind of posts and really think math is not important. Every rule of the cosmos is based on math. Math is a good guy. Everything we now know is because of math.
My brother was really good at math, so his wrestling coach helped him get a math scholarship. The next thing I know, he's a Doctor in physics and his bosses pay him to come interview with them. Even if he really doesn't want the job. Boy makes BANK! He was able to buy a 3 bedroom house cash down. No mortgage. Though he felt he cheated himself since he then couldn't afford to take his month long over seas vacation for 2 years.
I qualified and got the same math scholarship but went into the Humanities. I wrote a book and gave a few lectures & stuff. I now live in my parents basement asking them for money. I'm 3 classes from my masters but all the jobs I can get is where I type 120 per minute skill I picked up from a quarter long class I took in high school.
