I have a friend, that whenever the professors say something like this... she prints the stuff as small as readable possible and brings it to the exams. One professor once told her "... that's quite ingenious." and left her with her notecard with microscopic words
Most professors do not let you do this, since the point is the time spent making the sheet by by hand forces you to access the information with several different functional areas of your brain.
Why get a cheat sheet: Because in real life, you can look up formulas and constants, so memorizing them isn't as important as knowing how/when to use them. I found that writing out a cheat sheet was as good as reading the material several times as far as retention.
