Just cause they have it worse, doesn't mean we can't try to make our country better. It's like saying we shouldn't try to improve our econamy because other countries have it worse. And most people don't think that smiling is sexual harassment.
the argument is about priorities. the western woman is the most free/equal woman in the world. Manufactured issues like "Street harassment" or "subway spreading" or whatever should take a backseat to more important women's issues around the world.
Acting out verbally against women in public and demonstrating that a man deserves more space than a woman are "manufactured issues"? Whoa... The only manufactured issue in this range of topic are the stereotypes of "feminists" who in the end want to amputate penises and rule the world. This whole "women take over the world" thing is just a pejorative to cover up, that even though western women have a better life than saudi-arabian, we in the west still have serious issues when it comes to equal rights and acknowledgements. Actually it may be more to cover up, that in fact we as a society have experienced a serious blowback when it comes to gender issues. 20, 30 years many men would have shushed down even by as most other men for some of the sexist shit that seem to be totally mainstream these days.
Who the hell thinks smiling is sexual harassment? I'd love for a guy to smile at me. Just because he might be super creepy does not mean he's harassing you.
If you're alone on a bus and a stranger smiles at you, it shouldn't be scary, but it is.
Assaultists and rapists could be anyone, but a person acknowledging your presence shows that they already see you.
Not every stranger who smiles at me is creepy, but the fact that some are is what makes it so scary.
What a troll post, let's do nothing cause it's not as bad as other thing? How lame an argument can you get? We should be striving to be a better humidity everyday, small acts lead to big change....
While I get your point, we can't just force these people to change. It will do no good, they will just view us as opressors. In order for them to realize their own equality, they have to fight for it themselves. We can support them in this, but the true realization that what they are doing to their people is wrong needs to come from within them, not from us.
Why can't we feel sorry for these poor women who suffer in Saudi Arabia for just 1 second and put away all our other problems. YES being unable to even have your own personal life is much more worse than a guy smiling at you on the bus that could or could not be a creep.
Just because someone is commenting on their own problems doesn't mean they're trying to negate anyone else's problems. Do the women in Saudi Arbia have it worse than women in other countries? Yes, and we are all aware of this fact. But just because another woman somewhere else in the world has it worse than me doesn't mean I'm not allowed to be upset by some random guy slapping my ass without permission or a guy referring to me as a "bitch" or a "ho".
Yes you can be upset about that. Hell beat up his ass if you want. But we're talking about the difference of how women in Saudi Arabia have no life and a guy smiling at you on public transport (which is the case in this most). This post also makes you think how grateful we have to be that we don't live there. Thats all.
and you'd be fine with it? You'd love it? Because he's smiling?
