That was the (generally accepted) first day of the American revolution. The colonists were stockpiling muskets, rifles, cannon, and shot. The crown decided that a disarmed civilian population was easier to keep subjugated so the British troops marched on Lexington and Concord to seize the weapons. They were met by well armed and poorly trained minutemen. There were some brief but bloody skirmishes that saw no clear victor, however the civilians retained most of their armament and went on to win their independence after a costly war with the highly trained redcoats.
