My science teacher in high school had this poster on the door and pictures of before and after people became addicted to meth. And a shit ton of stuff preserved in formaldehyde. Like an insane collection of stuff. Like I'm now wondering how a person even comes by that array of gross things floating in jars.
My parents smoke in front of me since I was a child. Our furniture don´t smell that much, but non-smokers says that our clothing smells (My grandparents are saying it to me like everytime). They don´t even bother going to smoke outside since I was 13 and when I tell them that they should go outside, they tell me to mind my own bussiness. When my mother´s working from home she´s smoking all day in the kitchen and it smells like pub in the whole flat, because she doesn´t even bother to open a window. And that´s why I smoke - I´m going to die on lung anyways, so I´d rather enjoy it.
Would you still drink alcohol? Live in a city with big industrial areas & smog? Buy a house near a highly frequented road and inhale the emissions? ... If what happens on the inside would happen on the outside we'd live in the wilderness, far away from big cities, far away from plastic sh*t (which doesn't just pollute the oceans), there'd be less pharmaceuticals consumed because even a "harmless" headache pill damages the stomach mucosa, etc. If you think this idea through smoking becomes just a small problem among the other stuff.
Edit: These are just simple facts, what is your problem?
Smoking is worse because even the smoking companies know it's wrong and terrible for you and they only put warnings in small letters.
It damages your lungs severely and can hurt others around you when they don't even want it.
And your comment is basically like " well there's kids who's parents got bombed in the middle east, so your parents dying isn't a problem Noe stop crying "
That's not the point. It's about deliberating the idea and thinking about other stuff that damages the human body - stuff people rarely think about because it's not as tangible as smoking. It's so easy to point at smokers and say "You do something wrong" and as you can perfectly see here people just love to be at one with something, they love to feel morally superior even if they acutally aren't. It's just hard to realize that maybe you're doing something wrong as well, few people are able to endure this thought.
But it is one of the easiest. It's easier to stop buying cigarettes than it is to eat healthier or get out once a week to exercise because that requires money which you waste on cigarettes.
Seems like you never dealt with addicts. It would be a good start if people would stop thinking that you decide to be an addict. It's a mental problem. Telling an addict to just don't be addicted anymore is like telling a depressed person to just be happy. It's not that simple.
So you agree with this ad then? The whole point was that this ad scared the poster into not smoking as a kid (from the title). Yes, addiction is a very real mental problem that is extremely difficult to fix, but no one is born addicted to smoking. If this ad prevents people who have never smoked from starting, then it's doing its job. The people who made it aren't trying to say they're "morally superior", they're trying to save people from ever having to deal with that addiction.
