He's white in the comics, but anyway, he's far more powerful than the average asgardian.

He's so powerful the gods are like "We can't make this guy a warrior. He'd be the only man the army needs! All the other warriors would need to be let go! Let's make him the bodyguard of Asgard! Therefore we won't be putting his skills to waste, but we'll give great glory to all the other warriors of Asgard!" No more rasicm!
Yes, because it would be more logical to take a guy with the ability to see everything, everywhere an put him in the army, rather than to make him Asgards watchman and first line of defense.

Valhalla*
And I think you mean Asgard, because Valhalla is the afterlife.
Source: Thor (2011), where Thor states that he lead Volstagg to delicacies so succulent he thought he had died and gone to Valhalla.
That is partially true. Valhalla is the afterlife for great warriors that are chosen by Valkyries. Valhalla is basically like a giant dining hall next to Asgard though, not its own separate realm. Helheim contains the general afterlife for those who die of natural causes.
Also, those in Valhalla go out and fight to the death with Odin daily, though all of their injuries are healed once they re-enter Valhalla. This is followed by a night of drinking and partying, before doing it again the next day.
Um...Norse mythology refers to Nordic mythology which also includes Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Iceland so it was not only a belief in Norway even though I am not sure if they had the same belief in Finland and Denmark. Norse mythology would only include Norway and the rest of Scandinavia but Nordic refers to all of the countries above as Finland, Denmark and Iceland are not a part of Scandinavia.
