Well, for those interested the story behind the Irish flag is there was need for a flag that respected both the Catholics and the Protestants,in 1848 a small group of French women (inspired by their own flag) presented Thomas Francis Meagher with the flag of green white and orange, the green representing the Catholics, the orange the Protestants and the white to be the peace between the two factions, the flag was famously raised up above the GPO in Dublin in 1916 to proclaim the Irish nation as independent

I'm not sure why this is all that surprising. Red and blue are both primary colors, with yellow being the other. I would venture to guess that the other 8 flags (if that other guest's correct), all contain the 3rd primary color and some secondary color using either red or blue (i.e. purple, green, or orange).
