Well, each to their own of course but I tend to wonder the same thing.

Guest, don't judge other people on their choice of animal companion, okay? You'd be hissing,barking,meowing, etc. up the wrong tree.

It could be because they're such low maintenance. Feed em once a week make sure they have clean water and make sure the temp inside his tank is alright and you're basically golden. Cats and dogs require a lot of attention and can rip up your furniture they're a bit harder to clean after. So if someone wants a pet but doesn't have the time to constantly be paying attention to it a snake is pretty good. They're also very calm and it can be relaxing to just sit there and have it slide through yor hands. I miss having a cat or a dog but my snake is just as good he's just a little bit different.
