You don't have to be beautiful (or at the very least, you shouldn't have to be), and not being beautiful doesn't mean you're average. Feeling beautiful is an obligation and a pressure — and sometimes a pleasure, but not always. Feeling beautiful is so much work: work that beauty companies cash in on and exploit. Thank you for posting this article. I call my daughters beautiful because I want them to know they are. I wasn't told that when I was growing up and beauty is still a very tender spot for me as an adult. I have been telling them how kind and smart etc they are too. This is just a good reminder that it's easy to overemphasize beauty.
Actually, if you're, say, 10 pounds underweight, it's more dangerous than being 10 pounds overweight. The issue is there's no upper limit for weight. It's much more difficult to be 200 pounds underweight than 200 pounds overweight.
I actually don't like using the word beautiful, or pretty, to describe someone. Everyone's impression of belief of what beauty is is going to be different. To be honest, I try to get my physical appearance to look well-keep and clean, not beautiful. And beauty doesn't equate attractiveness, either. I'd rather be known for being intelligent, or well spoken, or kind, or funny, instead of being called beautiful. However, I don't believe people should be belittled or treated unkindly because their appearance, size, or look isn't what is considered beautiful by society. I think everyone has the right, as a human being, to be treated as one, but i don't think we should ignore obvious health issues in favor of not hurting other's feelings. We should always be courteous and kind with people, but blatant ignorance or misinformation isn't helpful either.

Ok this guest has my vote. Honestly, calling someone beautiful or pretty just states that they're physically attractive to you, and so can be a compliment when delivered by certain people. But you're right, NOBODY should be belittled or tormented for their physical appearance. Thank you guest, for being kind when all the other guests can be torture to us. Thank you, for voicing your opinion. And thank you for explaining your thoughts perfectly. Because not everyone understands this, but thanks to you a few more people will.

Finding somebody beautiful is a matter of taste. And everybody has different ones. So stop trying to make everybody beautiful because we all have different criteria. We are all gonna be beautiful to some people and not so much to others. Therefore, that post is useless....
You're right, no one is found to be beautiful by everyone however, as someone who opts for body positivity it's not about convincing someone that everyone is beautiful, it's about convincing the on only person who's opinion matters: their own. I don't find everyone attractive so to speak, but I know that everyone is beautiful to someone and most importantly they should be beautiful to themselves. Regardless of whether someone is 300 lbs or 90 lbs, they deserve to look in the mirror and like what they see. Body positivity isn't about convincing the world that everyone is beautiful, it's about convincing everyone that they themselves are beautiful and are allowed to feel that way.
No I'm serious! It's cool that you're French, I think being anything but American would be awesome xD

Try being Australian...half the world seems to think we're some third world country filled with hunter gatherers, and the other half thinks everyone speaks like Steve Irwin and has a pet kangaroo.
Every person I know that's moved here from France constantly goes on about how amazing France is compared to Australia :P That's the European way!
(I'm allowed to say that because I'm actually Italian, I just live in Australia)
French are not the nicest people. Have to be honest about this. Plus i have heard that australians are starting to get angry because there are too many french in australia.

Nah, at least not where I live. People from different countries seem to move to different cities, and mine definitely doesn't have many French people. We just get more angry when people move here then complain about how we don't have any 'culture', which is obvious because Australia's such a new country....we haven't really had time to make our own culture yet.
To me, 'beautiful' and 'pretty' have completely different meanings. I believe that beauty comes from the inside, whereas pretty is just a way to describe someone's appearance. That's why I only tell people with beautiful souls that they're beautiful and only if I really mean it.
