I want a six-pack because it's a sign of core strength, would aid balance, and would help me feel better about myself.

I have a 6 pack under my comfortable gut. A 6 pack of abs just means you have a certain percentage of body fat. Strong men don't have chiseled abs, but I bet your ass that they have a stronger core than you.
