They choose to deny it, like global warming.

I guess I've been out of high school to long to understand this, mainly because I don't remember high school being stressful.

Is it possible to measure Anxiety? I feel like it would be different from person to person. like pain.

I wish people could have stats. That would be cool, yet it would suck when so many people are better than you

Most high schools make students take a depression/anxiety test during their course of 4 years. When I took it I was right on the border and was called in.

.... according to what study? I would venture to guess that this "statistic" is 100% made up. But lets assume that its true. That would leave young highschool students with two options. 1)willow in self pitty because the world isnt fair. Or 2)recognize that your situation is different than that of the generation before you (just like every other generation of kids btw). Decide what you would like to get out of life, develop a plan to get there, follow it and be willing to change as you grow. The most liberating feeling in the world is when you decide that YOU controll your future.

I don't know how it is elsewhere, but where I live (UK)it's hard to feel like you're in control when you have to decide on your career path around age 14 and go through GCSE exams just so you can have a shot at 6th form so that you can do A-Level exams just to have a shot at university. That is the HIGHLY encouraged path- all we get told at my school is "WHEN you go to university' and taught about what's needed to be a doctor or a lawyer. That, along with pressure from what parents think is best, and older siblings to compare yourself to, doesn't leave me feeling like I have a lot of control of my future.

I can appreciate that feeling. I'm 34 years old. C student in grade school. Dropped out after 1.5 years in a 4 year college. i felt like i wasnt going to "make it". i started fixing cars in a Ford garage at 20 years old, got good enough to lean toward opening my own business at 32 years old when my employer asked if i was interested in managing a 30 person department. I accepted and became an integral part in turning it around, now we are working on opening a second store because we are exceeding all expectations. ouside of my kids its been the most rewarding thing i have ever done. And im making piles of $.

Im not saying everyone should skip college. but i am saying that its not for everone, and there is plenty education to be had away from traditional college. Honestly if you do nothing but except the fact that you are in control of your attitude and life i dont think it really matters what your path was.

In high school, you're responsible for yourself only and your biggest worry is the grade on the next test. Somehow, you think this is more stressful than a parent who is responsible for his/her children and a spouse, plus maybe even aging parents. Even if you're not "responsible"for a spouse, his/her health issues are still on your shoulders much more than those of your school friends. When my company had layoffs, there was a lot of stress among those who were their family's sole source of income and health insurance. And how about a sergeant or officer in the army...his order can result in the deaths of his men...that's not as stressful as not being as popular as you'd like in high school?

Agreed. @ 17 years old my grandfather lied about his age to join the Marines so that he could fight for his country. He earned the Navy Cross and Purple Heart as marks of bravery and honor for outstanding actions he took to save his fellow soldiers in Okinawa. Men like him and thousands of others went through the worst of the worst toallow this country to have the freedoms it does. So please tell me again how your highschool test anxiety is so high that no one older than you could ever understand how dificult your life is?!

No. Life does not just get shittier fro high school and I am sick as fuck of people saying that. All you're doing is discouraging people who are hoping it gets better, WHICH IT DOES. If the best time of your life was high school you need to reevaluate your life.

I recommend a video by tomska. I don't remember the name but it was something along the lines of "it doesn't get better". I found it somewhat motivating.

It doesn't get better, but your priorities, sense of self, pride level, patience, and values change.

Actually, depending on your situation, it does get better.maybe you're in an abusive situation at home and once you graduate you can escape from it ? Or if your peers are bullying you and no one is helping out so afterwards you can leave them behind ?
