If I'm paying $148,000,000 for a fucking "modern art" paint-splatter painting, that gold on the painting better be 24ct gold, that brown on the painting better be Jesus' shit, and the entire piece had better be painted by a fucking dinosaur 65 million years ago.
I'm sorry to say but that is a Jackson Pollock painting. He is well known for his use of splatter paint to create abstract pieces of artwork such as the one depicted. And I'm not going to disagree with the fact that it's dumb it's just that he is one of the most influential "modern" artists ever. He died at age 44 due to an alcohol related car crash
This is so stupid!! How is this painting worth that kind of money?!?! I can paint something that actually looks like a thing and nobody wud pay a dollar for it but jst because they have a name or say it has some deep "meaning" behind it, it sells for billions! It makes no sense.
lol and yet i can download a digital copy for free.

Jackson pollock painting are one of those things where "what the duck am I looking at?" Is the base reaction. But once you've rsearched an artist, lived his life with him, and finally understand his mind and his attempted reflection of human nature with his paintings that are LITERALLY huge ass canvasses (like 15' by 20'). But the real reason this paintings is worth $148 million, is because you are paying for time, skill, and the personal thought of the artist, things that are impossible to equate into a physical value. But people only seem to only understand somethings worth when it's expensive, so they just gave it a number to make it easier to fathom.
You're paying for the name only. No one gives a fuck about the time, skill and personal thought of an extremely talented nobody. Stop kidding yourself.
I've seen private islands go for anything from $50,000 to millions. So, depending on the size of the island and the yacht, they could potentially be the same price, yes.
Most private islands are undeveloped. You have to supply your own fresh water, electricity and shelter. Plus storms will tear everything apart in a few years unless you pay for constant upkeep. That's why the best are crazy super expensive and the rest just expensive.
I think it's jackson pollock and they are amazing in real life not to mention the cultural significance, he was integral to the modern art movement. It's like saying the Mona Lisa is just a painting....art that changes a whole world should be worth more than a dam yacht.
You cannot compare art to something as materialistic as yachts. To you, it may seem meaningless, but the artist spent a lot of time, energy, and effort into a piece, no matter how abstract it seems. The artist strained his/her brain to come up with that piece, compose, and finish the painting. Art is not just painting some thing that the brain can recognize, and then forget. Art is supposed to be remembered and to revolutionize. Realism is not the full extent of art. Art has not boundaries, and is not restricted. Don't think that just because it looks like splatters of paint on a canvas, it is worthless. What worth is having a yacht, or having ten luxury homes?
What has art come to
