Keep in mind about the Christianity one that being a homophobe and the rest of the list is different that having opposing views. While I am a Christian and I don't exactly agree with gay people, that doesn't give me any reason to act hateful to them or otherwise treat them lower than me. We're told to love another person like I would like someone to love me, meaning we should spread happiness to those around us, not hate! Having a different opinion and being hateful are two very different things.
Why exactely is it not okay for an atheist to ridicule grown people for believing fairy tales and using them to oppress, torture and kill others all over the world for centuries?
Thats what I am talking about, you have your silly little beliefs. I have tons of proof. Is it 100% sure god does not exist,? No, of course not. Its a fragment less than 100%. Opposed to that, the idea that there is a creating mind behind everything is just a fairytale based on a complete lack of knowledge. Ifg this was a long time ago, I should grant you the benfit of doubt (even though atheists have more or less proven their point thousands of years ago) but in the 21st century? If this is hard to grasp for ypu, just stay out of discussions about your belief, easy as that. I let people live their live and believe whatever the fuck they want, as long as they dont come and talk shit like its the same thing to believe or not to believe. Its not the same thing and if you don't get it, then cause you are not that smart I guess. So maybe I should not waste any time on you, should I?
Other guest. I do not need respect for what I believe, cause there is ton of evidence to prove my point. This may be the reason why religious nuts always demand respect for their mental illness, cause deep down inside they KNOW they have nothing on their side but some bullshit fairytales.
Where is all of this evidence that you keep mentioning anyways? And how are you even coming up with that near 100% figure? I think you lack self confidence in your own intelligence, so you have to bash on other people's beliefs, many of whom are much smarter than you.
Okay, you people. This entire post was based upon the things that you people are arguing about. Why cause conflict. Let's just agree to disagree. I was raised catholic but ultimately decided my beliefs to be agnostic. I have a deep respect for all people depending not on what they believe in, but how they use what they believe on others. Meaning: asshole athiests and asshole christians are all the same to me and vice versa. Now please stop fighting.
Science is not proof that god doesn't exist, there is no proof of anything so if you want to talk about being logical the only really logical belief is agnostic as we don't know if there is a god or not. So stop preaching like everyone who doesn't agree with you is stupid, in fact there are a large number of religious scientists because they belive the universe is to precise and complex to be an accident, and these people are probably 10X as intelligent as you. Belief is not logical it is a choice, no-one knows for sure so stop judging others like you do.
None of you religious folks can prove there are no unicorns. So, now I decide that I believe they do. My parents gave me books with Unicorns in them, so its a traditionional belief. So you must respect my belief. So I can just stand here and say: it is pretty much exactly likely that unicorns exist as it is likely they do not exist. I have as much reason to believe in them as you have not to believe in them, so we must agree to disagree or otherwise you are bullying me. And because I have never read anything that might make me doubt their existence, I dare all the nonbelievers to quote me the proof that unicorns do not exist. Makes a lot of sense, I begin to understand why the us american school system is regarded as the best there ever was.
I'm not saying everyone has to agree, I'm saying that there's no proof of anything so why do people treat others like idiots because they believe one thing without proof when that's what everyone is doing?
There is actualy quite a lot of proof that the existence of a higher being is not needed to explain the existence of matter and beings. It is not to be found in the bible, but its out there. Just because there is a technical uncertainty left does not make the existence of higher powers any more likely.
Also I want to protest the assumption that atheists deny spirituality, they deny religions and gods, actually at least partly because that is just what manipulative and power hungry MEN made of mankinds natural, inherent spirituality.
Oh, and with regards to the "scientists" who are ten times smarter than me and think god must exists cause its all so friggin complicated... really? Exactly all this complication makes it even less likely all this is based on a master plan. Self organization and evolutionary processes however explain all this complication pretty good actually. This "its all so complicated so there must be higher beings" is the base of most polytheist religions by the way. Those monotheist desert kids just had so little inspiration.
And I guess there are also atheists who don't shove their ridiculous beliefs down everyone's throats... Can you do us all a favor and stop spamming our post? Please just go back to arguing with soccer moms on fb. Maybe someone will care over there
"Our post"? Dafuq? This a church convention? MY only belief is, that there is not that much to believe in, except for logic, science and nature. Also I have read the bible, as well as the quran, and there is just a very few books that are more ridiculous than those: that would be the book mormon and the Dianetics, the principles of Scientology, both religions invented in the usa, both making the belief in Unicorns look pretty rational. So if you have a problem with free speech and open minds, maybe you go on an prayer binge over at christianmingle :P
Haha you are trying to make this about freedom of speech... I'm just letting you know that your rant is making you look like an asshole. Who goes on fs and would rather bitch about other people's beliefs instead of enjoying the funny content? Also you keep mentioning logic, facts, and science, yet you haven't once utilized any of these. You just state your opinion. I'm just waiting to hear what makes your opinion more reasonable.
How about almost any book by Richard Dawkins? How about you pick one of those: brainz.org/50-most-brilliant-atheists-all-time/ ? You as a half-ass christian (I bet both my balls I have forgotten more of what is written in the bible, than your lazy ass will ever know!) think my rants make me look like an asshole? Thank you very much sir, I regard this as an honour. Your helpless baby babbling makes you look like the credulous, gregarious being that you are. Have fun on your way to the abattoir.
Yes, your rant makes you look like asshole. You can't debate like an adult, so you have to insult my spirituality and my intelligence. That's a large leap in logic to assume anything about me. You are so willing to make these ridiculous logical-leaps about anyone on the internet who disagrees with you, yet making the inductive leap that a God exists is too childish for you? Way to have an "open-mind"...
You comared atheism to Christianity and you think both are at the same level, no they are not. Athism is based on logic, Christianity is based on traditional and illogical thought
I am sick and tired of the desperate and feeble attempts to put religion and atheism on a level playing field. Atheism is based on logic and science, religion is based on the complete absence of both. Its not a 50/50 chance either side is right, its is an itsybitsy less than 100% vs. a tinywiny little more than 0 %.
And why would I have to "respect" a belief? Where exactly does that stop? When is a belief absurd and wack enough, I don't have to respect it any more?
There is no proof god does or doesn't exist, they are on the same playing field. It has no effect on you what others believe so why don't you just back off and let people live their lives how they want to.
(Other guests) yes, do not demand for your beliefs to be respected if you don't respect others. To you it may not make any sense, but it is not in your place to judge.
jk
