I'm sorry guys, but coming from Chicago, mustard is always the right choice. Ketchup is never on the menu anywhere around and I am absolutely ok with that.
But ketchup smells awful and tastes the same. I understand both people who either like or dislike mustard, but i cannot understand those who like ketchup
As someone from the tomato capitol of Canada, I will eat them in just about any format including ketchup. Fresh ketchup is great, but the smell of dried ketchup (or ketchup chips) makes me sick to my stomach. I hate the taste and smell of yellow mustard, but dijon isn't as bad. I regularly use mustard seed and powder. Everyone has preferences, and when it's as simple as adding one of the most popular condiments on your continent to a table, it shouldn't be an issue.
If you put ketchup on a Chicago style hot dog, people will look at you weird. There's a restaurant that says ketchup on a Chicago style hot dog is forbidden within city limits.
You can put ketchup on a regular hot dog, though
