Our newest employee is a black girl from the U.S, my father in law said this when he met

I am from a town in Canada where, when I was growing up, the only other race I met in person was Native. When you're used to seeing the same thing every day, change can be a bit shocking. Now that I've traveled and been around the world, I speak with people from as many races and religions as possible.
Side note: If you're not Asian an amazing sense of culture shock is felt when hundreds of curious Asian people see a person of a different race for the first time. And if you have an afro, get ready for fun.
